McGill’s Internship Program

McGill’s Internship Program offers distinguished students an opportunity to integrate classroom knowledge and theory with practical, hands-on work experience. Internships are typically offered over the summer, as students explore a career in engineering, landscape architecture, marketing, accounting, human resources, or other professional fields of interest.

Engineering Interns

Engineering Interns are placed on a team specific to their interest, academic level, and experience, where they will work alongside registered professionals and design staff to gain relevant experience on every assignment. By working across offices and disciplines, students gain exposure to various geographical regions, different types of clients and projects, and specific software to enhance their understanding of the discipline and consulting engineering in general.

McGill offers paid internships to students who are pursuing an engineering degree in civil, environmental, biological systems, mechanical, electrical, or a related field from an ABET-accredited university. The program is highly competitive and requires all students to go through a rigorous interview process.

The following engineering disciplines have internship opportunities in the following offices:

  • Civil / site team – Asheville, Hickory, Raleigh, and Shallotte offices
  • Water / wastewater team – Knoxville, Asheville, Hickory, and Pinehurst offices
  • Mechanical team – Asheville office
  • Electrical team – Asheville and Hickory offices
  • Water resources (stormwater) team – Raleigh office

fosters success.”

  • Lillie Williams
    North Carolina State University

“I took the opportunity to intern at McGill because it would be a great resume builder and ultimately, I saw this as a chance that I could not pass on.”

  • Nathan Treadway
    Emory & Henry College

“Interning allowed me to see the company first-hand and see the culture of the company upfront. I was able to see that the managers wanted to see me, as an individual, progress in my career. They were interested in seeing me grow and potentially become a project manager, maybe even the president of the company one day.”
