Statesville Third Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant

NCDEQ Secretary van der Vaart Visits Statesville’s Third Creek WWTP

McGill Associates was pleased to be on-hand to support the City of Statesville’s Water Resources Department during a recent tour of Third Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant with North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Secretary Donald R. van der Vaart and the City’s Water Resources Director Joe Hudson. The tour gave Secretary van der Vaart an up close look at improvements to the facility and an understanding of how those improvements were funded. Others on the tour included Tom Reeder, Assistant Secretary for the Environment; Jerry Byerly, City of Statesville Assistant Water Resources Director; Mike Fenley, Field Representative for US Senator Richard Burr; Crystal Feldman, Deputy Secretary for Public Affairs; and John Evans, Chief Deputy Secretary.

Vice President Andy Lovingood, PE, attended on behalf of the firm and discussed the impact the facility has on the community. “This is a huge economic project for Statesville,” he told WSIC News. “This is jobs for Statesville.” Lovingood also highlighted the fact that the project came in $3 million dollars under budget.

McGill Associates assisted the City of Statesville with the permitting, design, and construction administration of the Third Creek WWTP upgrade and expansion. The firm helped secure the modified NPDES discharge permit and assisted the City with procuring over $23 million in low-interest funding through the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. The project was completed in August 2015.
