Meet the 2026 McGill Interns Driving Innovation
Each summer, McGill welcomes a talented group of interns who bring fresh perspectives, curiosity, and enthusiasm to our offices across the Southeast. This year’s intern class represents a variety of universities, academic disciplines, and career interests, but they all share a common goal: gaining real-world experience while learning from the professionals who make McGill successful. From engineering and finance to graphic design, our 2026 interns are already making an impact while expanding their knowledge and skills.
Hands-On Experience in Water and Wastewater Engineering
Several interns are supporting McGill’s water and wastewater team this summer.
- Zack Gilbertson, a rising senior at the University of Mississippi, was drawn to McGill by the team, project opportunities, and location, and is looking forward to applying engineering concepts while expanding his design knowledge.
- James Baer, also a senior at NC State, returned for another summer after positive experiences with McGill in previous years and is eager to continue learning about water and wastewater systems.
- Tanner Floyd, a junior at Western Carolina University, joined McGill to gain civil engineering experience in the Asheville region and hopes to learn as much as possible about the profession.
- Carson Cathey, who recently completed his freshman year at Mississippi State University, saw McGill as an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and strengthen his Civil 3D skills.
- Kinley Attaway, a rising senior at NC State, says it was the people and family-oriented atmosphere that brought her back to McGill. This summer, she hopes to deepen her understanding of engineering projects while gaining practical, hands-on experience that will help prepare her for her future career.
- Returning intern Zach Crotty, an Environmental Engineering senior at NC State, is spending another summer with McGill after a positive experience last year. He looks forward to working on larger-scale projects and collaborating with fellow interns while continuing to expand his technical knowledge.
- Molly Chapman, a rising sophomore at UNC Charlotte, was attracted to McGill’s strong water and wastewater team and looks forward to seeing how concepts learned in the classroom translate into real-world projects.
- Dago Trinidad, a senior at UNC Charlotte, returned to McGill for the third summer because of the team and the resources he’s had the opportunity to work with.
Civil Interns Build Real-World Skills
Our civil team interns bring a wide range of interests and experiences.
- Nathan Winchester, a rising junior at NC State, chose McGill after touring one of our offices and seeing a place where he could envision building his career. He is excited to gain exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines and continue developing professionally.
- Returning intern, Raleigh Slutsky, a rising senior in Civil Engineering at NC State, is eager to connect classroom concepts with real design work and gain valuable experience in the civil engineering field.
- James Baer, also a senior at NC State, returned for another summer after positive experiences with McGill in previous years and is eager to continue learning about water and wastewater systems.
- Albert Garcia, a junior at NC State, chose McGill to strengthen his AutoCAD skills and learn alongside experienced professionals in the Shallotte office.
Exploring Opportunities in Civil / Solid Waste and MEP
- Civil / Solid Waste intern, Jordan Frederick, a senior at The University of Toledo, selected McGill because of its strong reputation, diverse services, and welcoming culture. He looks forward to learning from those around him, contributing wherever possible, and building lasting professional relationships.
- Ella Kepple, a rising senior at the University of Georgia, is returning to McGill’s civil / solid waste team because of the close-nit team and support she received last summer.
- Mike Haynes returned to McGill’s MEP team this summer. A senior at NC State, he is focused on improving his MEP knowledge and design skills while gaining exposure to new projects.
Beyond Engineering
Not all our interns are pursuing engineering degrees.
- Carson Childers, who recently graduated from NC State with a degree in Business Administration and a concentration in Finance, returned to McGill’s funding team after a successful internship last year. This year, she is continuing to explore technical writing, financial modeling, and the many ways financial services support infrastructure projects and communities.
- Representing the marketing team is Katherine Bailey, a Graphic Design graduate from NC State. Katherine joined McGill to gain experience in corporate marketing and broaden her creative skill set.
While their academic paths and career goals may differ, this year’s interns share a passion for learning, growth, and collaboration. Many are looking forward to developing technical skills, working with new software, and gaining exposure to projects that serve communities throughout the region. Others are excited about building professional relationships, learning from experienced mentors, and exploring the many disciplines represented across McGill.
Life Outside the Office: Intern Interests and Activities
Outside the office, this group is equally diverse. Their interests include golf, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, running, weightlifting, gaming, reading, beach trips, church activities, and spending time with family and friends. These hobbies and experiences help shape the unique perspectives they bring to our teams each day. McGill’s internship program is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experiences that help students bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace.
Preparing Future Professionals
Throughout the summer, interns have opportunities to contribute to real projects, learn from industry professionals, and gain insight into the collaborative culture that defines McGill. We are excited to welcome our 2026 summer interns and look forward to seeing all they accomplish during their time with us. Their energy, talent, and dedication are already making a difference, and we are proud to be part of their professional journey.
