McGill Offers Small Teams, Big Rewards

“One of the things I enjoy most about my team is the small size,” said Sam Abernethy, EI, Engineering Associate on McGill’s Water and Wastewater team. “We work closely together and are all aware of what everyone is doing. We know and understand each other’s strengths and use this to make the final project as strong as it can be.”

Sam said that each individual on his team has strengths that they bring to the table and experiences that they share. “Everyone is able to approach the needs of a project from a unique perspective which helps create a thorough process throughout the project. For the most part, I get to see the projects from start to completion which can be very rewarding.”

Competition and Camaraderie

The competitive spirit was high at McGill’s 5th Annual Asheville Picnic on Friday, October 11th. During the picnic, brothers Ben and Mark Cathey once again took the title of Corn Hole Champions, beating 10 teams for the win. Not only did employees battle each other in the Corn Hole Tournament, but they also showed off their culinary skills in the Dessert Challenge. This year, Sara Mayberry, Practice Area Assistant, won $100 for her first place entry, a Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse.

“The picnic was a fun, team building event where we got to take a break from the everyday to enjoy each other’s company and get to know everyone a little better,” said Sara. While cheering on the competitors, employees enjoyed a hot hibachi lunch of chicken, steak, and veggies prepared by McGill’s Asheville leadership.
